If you do not mind, can you help me with Freeform?

Is there a way to set up Freeform so that what a user enters into Freeform is automatically redirected to and saved in another template?

I.e., I create a new template somewhere in EE and light it up with a combination of EE code and Freeform code. Then when a user submits something to Freeform, the information is sent to and stored in the new template.

I searched solspace’s forum where Freeform is supported. I had no luck.

Unregistered users can send information into Freeform section of EE; I hope this will not pose some security problems.

The FreeForm module is excellent and I use it on almost every project. You shouldn’t have any problems with it.

I had the feeling that security issues could be at play here. While searching for solutions for my question, I ran into solspace’s Freeform. I was able to set up Example 1 (as shown http://www.solspace.com/docs/entry/freeform_form/). Unregistered users can send information into Freeform section of EE; I hope this will not pose some security problems.

This is definitely possible. Go to Admin > Weblog Administration > Weblog Management and choose the Edit Preferences for the blog you want to allow comments. From there choose Comment Posting Preferences and adjust the second item “Require membership in order to post comments?” to “Yes.”

This is easier than I thought. While trying to answer my own question here, I reproduced and applied what you did in creating the community_discounts – but I created a new section, created a new template inside the new section and entered the search-form code from your php file, and then un-restricted the entire template. But it did not work.

It’s okay, I appear to have sorted. I don’t know if it’s correct, but it works. I simply put the home page in the print_editions folder to replace the index page already in that folder, and borrowed some code from that index page into the home page. I also had to create a custom field for the issue date for the viewers letters, as I wanted the letters to show for each issue. So now when I select the issue date from the sidebar, the home page for the selected date shows, together with the viewers letters.

Thanks for a great set of tutorials. They have been easy and clear to follow, and worth every penny.

I now want to build an online magazine based upon what I have learnt. My main concern is a changeover from one issue of the magazine to the next issue. The way the Engine City Times works is to shunt each newly entered news article on to the first page, rather than pin it to a specific issue date. How would I go about fixing each article to the print_edition, so that the first page shows only those articles relating to that issue?

1) Please take a look at the episode-index.php file placed into episode 10 folder. It does not go anywhere in episode 10 (Or maybe I am confused).

For example, the episode-index.php file placed into episode 9 folder goes into the index of print_editions template group.

2) I am yet to complete episodes 11 and 12. But I took a look at the php files in episode 10 folder. Some files are missing in episode 10 folder.

Examples,

A) site-print_editions.php is not there in episode 10 folder

B) episode 8’s includes-sidebar.php does not contain all the EE tags you added therein.

Can you give us an updated episode 12 folder containing all the php files with ALL your EE tags inserted in them? I find it easier and helpful to look at the completed php files (with your EE tags) while watching the videos.

I think I see it. Try adding a forward slach to all of the navigation items’ paths, except “Home,” e.g. /news_articles/page/category/news.

Hi Ryan – I just ran through the first three tutorials. They are excellent. I was into the fourth and had just created my links in the masthead include. When I tested – it seemed to work fine, until I clicked through the main tabs again which resulted in the following error:

Error: The URL contains too many segments.

I’m running MAMP and have ee in a sub-directory..

I don’t have any episodes currently planned on those topics, but I’m always gathering ideas for new episodes. These items may be covered in a future series.

2) I read about your impending book. Please cover wiki and forum modules. When is the book coming out? I can’t wait to buy it!

No publish date on the book yet. I’m working to make sure it is as up-to-date as possible and, well, sometimes that requires some patience and waiting. I’ll be sure to make a loud noise when it is ready, though. ;)

3) Do you have converted, EE-ready-made templates different from the template style covered in the episodes? I will buy them from you because they must be consistent with your clear explanations in the screencasts. Please, send me an email if you are willing to sell me one or two templates. I don’t have any templates available, however there are some sites on the web that do create EE templates. A quick Google search should find you everything you need.

The CSS path in the templates is set up as a relative path and you probably need adjust it since you’re running EE in a subdirectory. You could even set a URL instead of a path:

Hi,
I’ve just purchased the first two videos and am impressed with them. Great stuff.

When I view the rendered index file (located in the site folder ) from within EE, the page does not show the CSS formatting (I’m using the static home page you provide). The address EE uses to render the page is http://localhost/EECore/index.php/site/

I’ve put the CSS folder at the root directory of the site. I’m running EE locally, and in the general configuration setting, the root for the site is set at http://localhost/EECore/ (where EECore is the name of the site). If I view the address http://localhost/EECore/ directly with my browser, the image renders perfectly.

Any ideas why the CSS formatting is not showing when rendered by EE?

Hey all, he it works great to have the quicktime movies open in a 640px width windows and your EE control panel open on the right in a 640px width size window of your browser to work on the setup tutorials in real time. If you’re running at least a 1280px screen setting, 1024 might work too, with some adjustment.

Greetings to all!

Well, I am stuck-in-the-mud even running the very first Hello World program. I am sure it is a ‘newbie’ problem, but I keep getting this error:

“Error from Debugger: Failed to launch simulated application: iPhone Simulator failed to install the application”

I’ve Googled the error, and from the suggestions I found, I’ve cleaned the code, separately Built an Run the Code, restarted xCode and the iPhone Simulator, rebooted the machine and even reinstalled xCode and the iPhone SDK to make certain they were current. Nothing.

Any ideas?
