Book comes out in December; any guess when an electronic beta version might be available? |

As soon as Apple lifts the NDA. See Dave’s blog for a status update. |

Would it be possible to initially sell the book to people who has already registered as apple developers? Of course, some proof of this is provided before purchasing? Just an idea, I really want to be able to put my hands at it right away. Apple’s docs are beyond my rookie comprehension. |

That’s not something we’d thought of, and it’s worth asking. It might not fly with Apple Legal, and it might not fly economically (as it limits the potential audience to those who’ve already downloaded the SDK and accepted its terms), but I’ll take this to the Prags and we’ll see what happens. Thanks. |

I really want this book. This NDA issue needs to be raised with Apple. They should be selling these books in their bookstore and the SDK should come with the phone! |

Actually, it’s lifted as of right now. No need to wait until next week. They are just releasing a new version of an NDA next week that will cover unreleased features. As of right now there is no NDA in place. I think you guys should move forward with the beta book and screencasts right now. My wallet is open :) Brent |

Our reading is that the old agreement holds until the new one comes along. But we’re digging hard in Apple to see if they’ll be reasonable about it. http://pragdave.pragprog.com discusses it. Ultimately, we have to protect the authors. We’ll get you the content just as soon as we can. |

I see that interpretation now as well. Well, we’ve waited this long so we can wait a little while longer. I understand the need to protect the authors and look forward to when the content can be released. |

It is good Apple got rid of the NDA but I already bought Android book and I’ll program Android but maybe I will get this book later for fun to read. Just one question this book focus heavily on objective-c right? or there is content that I could use just C for example with OpenGL or SQLite?. Regards. |

Skandar, The book covers getting OpenGL ES up and running via the EGL api that is part of the iPhone SDK (i.e. we don’t cover OpenGL ES, just how to get Open GL ES content running on the device). The SQLite coverage is there too. |

Just another few questions on the subject of the beta book. As someone who hasn’t bough it yet, but is teetering on the edge of doing so… 1. How often are updates etc made available? Thanks |

Hi Ian, 1 – about once a week Thanks again! |

Bill… I took the bait ;-) and now have the .PDF! Do we get emailed, when you release a new version? I was a bit concerned when page 8 says ‘Beta 1.01 – October 3’ when the footer says ‘this copy is (B2.0’ |

Hi Ian, Thanks again! - yes you should get an email as soon as a new beta is pushed - grrr typos, typos typos, i hate typos :) The footer is auto placed but the text on page 8 was typed in, and thus we got it wrong. Don’t Repeat Yourself (DRY) principal once again with a friendly reminder of how important it is. Best of luck to you! |
